That’s right, this is not The Talens’ Tales nor is it The Talens’ Treks, though these blogs make for some great reads. The Talens’ Trails is our
(Emil and Karisa’s) blog; a place where you the reader (family/ friends/internet
strangers) can take in our ramblings and hopefully get a glimpse of our new
lives as teachers in Southern California.
But first things first, we should
probably introduce ourselves so here goes nothing:
I’m Karisa, also known as Kay,
K-Dawg, Ditta, and most recently, Mrs. Talen. I’m a farm girl from Northern New
Jersey, where yes, there are indeed rolling hills of trees, hay fields, and
pastures and not just airports and city. Within one week of moving halfway
across the country and beginning college in the midwest, I met my dream man: a
God-fearing, long-legged, deep-voiced farm boy from Canada. We got hitched, finished school, and
prayed that the Lord would lead us on a teaching adventure. Now here I am, a
California girl.
This is Emil. And what my wife said
about me is true (although I don’t know how dreamy I am). I may be known for my
height and but am also a farm boy from Prince Edward Island, Canada (which is on
the East Coast for all of you lacking in Canadian geography). Oh and no, PEI is
not just about Anne of Green Gables. I decided to follow in my older brothers’
footsteps and attend Dordt College as a music major. Little did I know I would
meet the woman who would finish my… sandwiches. Graduating 5 years later with a music education
degree and a marriage certificate, I began this adventure with Karisa by my
side.
So why? Why are we writing this
blog? Is it to continue following in Talen traditions of blogging? Maybe it is
to ensure our parents on the other side of the continent we are alive and well?
Or is it to improve our writing abilities whilst documenting our fledgling
teaching careers? The answer is up to you. Take this blog as you wish. Happy
reading!
Excitedly following your adventures friends!
